Okay, here's the situation. A little while ago i was infected with a virus so badly that the only option to resolve the problem was to reinstall the operating system. I ordered the software retrieving software from Acer (who made my laptop) and used it and luckily it worked. But after i did this my computer switched from English to Spanish. I have tried installing another version of XP in English, but then the system ignores all my other parts, like the built in wireless receiver, audio and video cards, and USB ports, so I went back to Spanish. I tried working with the language options but to no avail, and every time I change the language bar to English, nothing happens, the text still stays in Spanish. Don't suggest the initial virus is doing this, because I know that I cleared that out, and don't suggest I just learn Spanish. In short; PLEASE HELP ME!!! I was reffered to yahoo answeres by a friend, I have a hp Pavilion dv5000 laptop and it is very good but has one problem. The language I understand is English but the windows language is Italian. someone gave me a software for language changing but it did not work and now I need serious help.
Please if you have an idea of how I can get a software that can change the language I would be most grateful.
One other thing. someone told me that the system could be re-formatted but I dont want that bacause I have alot of nice softwares already installed in the PC and I dont want to loose any.

Hi, have you tried using the icons to find your way around your menu and fix it? But you probably can't remember which ones to follow... I had to look at them. :-D
Okay, try this:
First the Start menu icon - a window.
Next could be Settings which is a yellow cog with a rod through it and something white and squarish behind it.
Then the Control Panel icon will be either a couple of tools on a folder OR a notepad with a border around it and a tick on it, plus a pencil.
Next an earth for Regional and Language Options.
The second tab across should be the Language tab - possibly something like Idioma.
The first click box should be the Details button and will bring up a new window.
In the new window, use the drop-down arrow to look for Ingl茅s which is Spanish for English.
The left button at the bottom is probably the OK button.
That takes you back to the first box which also needs OK clicking.
After this, hopefully you are back in English and can check whether English is set as the default. It's vaguely possible that you will have to restart your computer and/or use your Windows CD.
Words that might be useful that I got using a translator (might be right, might be wrong, but hopefully they will be a guide at least):
Ingl茅s = English
Espa帽ol = Spanish
Idioma = Language
Los detalles = Details
Puede = Okay
Reinicie el equipo. = Please restart your computer.

Turn upside down your laptop and look on the windows sticker, if you find this: 'OEM' then you can not change the language except.... you download the english version or files but ..... you will have to pay it is not free. You see there is only one official language in France therefore OEM versions are only installed in the French language, (is a cheaper version of course). So whatever people say about changing language of a French OEM version it will not work without downloading and purchasing the files. Your OS is in French, but the programs you download and install can be done in English, this will not change the OS language. Turn upside down your laptop and look on the windows sticker, if you find this: 'OEM' then you can not change the language except.... you download the english version or files but ..... you will have to pay it is not free. You see there is only one official language in France therefore OEM versions are only installed in the French language, (is a cheaper version of course). i haven't crossed your situation, but i doubt a language pack plugin is available, anyway, my choice is to uninstall the arabic version then install an english version, if you don't have it, just google around or go to the microsoft download center.

How to change Windows 7 language from Hungarian to English?
My aunt bought me a new laptop which is all in Hungarian and I don't know a single word. And she's not here with me to help change it to English. So I'm here asking if anyone could help? Step by step how to change the language setting to English please? Btw this is on Windows 7 :)How to change Windows 7 language from Hungarian to English?
Translating the instructions from Microsoft's Hungarian website:
1. To open the Regional and Language Settings (Területi és nyelvi beállítások) page, click on the Start button, then on the Control Panel (Vezérl?pult) command, then in the Clock, Language and Region (óra, nyelv és terület) section, select the Region and Language (Területi és nyelvi beállítások) option.
2. Click on the Keyboard and Language (Billenty?zet és nyelvek) tab.
3. In the Display Language (Megjelenítési nyelv) section, select the desired language from the list, then click the OK button.
[The other answers have totally missed the point of this question: her problem isn't knowing the steps in English, her problem is that she clicks on the Start menu and it says stuff like %26quot;felhasználók%26quot; and %26quot;vezérl?pult%26quot; and %26quot;sugó%26quot; and similar gibberish. You can't click on %26quot;Control Panel%26quot; if the start menu doesn't contain the words %26quot;Control%26quot; or %26quot;Panel%26quot;.]

Glad I could help. If nothing else, it was interesting to find out how the various terms are translated - I especially like vezérl?pult. (I remember the bad old days of Hungarian computer translations, when 'file' was rendered as 'fájl'. Ouch.)
I believe you have to go to control panel and choose %26quot;Reginal and Language Options%26quot;. If yuor using your computer in a different language right now it looks like a globe. Under “Language Used in Menus and Dialogs”, select the language you want.
